Dolphin campaign presentation
Tuesday, April 20, 2004
As part of the campaign against dolphins in captivity a special presentation
will be given on Earth Day, Thursday, 22 April at the John A Cumber Primary
School at 7 pm.
Speakers at the event include world champion free diver Tanya Streeter, who
is also the spokeswoman for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society of the
UK; Dr Naomi Rose, a marine mammal scientist with the Humane Society of the
United States; and Diana McCauley, founder and CEO of the Jamaica Environmental
Trust.
There will also be an audio-visual presentation entitled Marine Mammals in
Captivity which, according to organisers, will show, “the truths and facts
surrounding dolphins and whales being taken from the wild and kept in captivity,
against their will.”
In a statement released by the evening’s organisers, the group said: “As we
celebrate Earth Day in the Cayman Islands, the freedom of dolphins and whales is
at stake.
“Developers seeking only to make money, continue a wanton disregard for the
feelings of our fellow earth creatures, the dolphins and whales.”
All are welcome to attend the free presentation and light refreshments will
be served.
