Winning performers and organizers were elated by the success of the second Cable and Wireless Star Quest televised show on Thursday 3 March, which narrowed the number of finalist from ten to six. “It was amazing!” said Sarah Jan-Evan of Cable & Wireless “We just couldn’t believe it. It was magnificent!”

The audition process which, started in June 2004, went to every district including Cayman Brac.

The events of September blew a hole in the Star Quest schedule.

“Unfortunately, Ivan came after the first TV performance and basically we started this back up so that we could finish the story.

“We had been told over and over again that there’s no talent in Cayman, that there’s no performers. I think that C&W has really proven them wrong.

“I’m really overjoyed to be working with the Youth of Cayman in a very positive way,” she added.

One of the six successful performers on Thursday’s (3 March) show, Morna Richardson described herself as, “Relieved first of all, blessed, a little tired, nervous and seven months pregnant.

“I usually have more room to move,” she said and added she would have to work harder to get into the top three.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” said Karen Edie, who describes herself as a soul jazzy performer. She added that she was already looking forward to the next round, “If you like what I did, vote for me please!” she said.

Having practiced so hard together and become friends, there were mixed emotions among the winners, since somebody had to lose.

Kathleen Jackman who has been performing since she was three said, “Everyone did such a fantastic job I’m going to miss the other acts.”

Julie Hutton of the C&W Khaos production team pointed out that this was a golden opportunity to showcase both the Cable & Wireless Broadband technology and the talent of Cayman. “For the performers it is a great opportunity to be seen on Internet streaming,” said Ms Hutton.

The performers once again did a great job to attract their fans who voted in their thousands. But show business is a tough business and this week four contestants were forced to leave the show after the votes were tallied.

Isadora Ferrao, Blackface, Marvin Smith and Wayneroy Randall performed for the last time on this season’s Star Quest.

“I definitely have a lot of mixed feelings now that I have been eliminated,” said Isadora the only women to be eliminated on Thursday.

“I learned so much from the experience but I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to show Cayman all the outfits I planned to wear.”

Blackface said he was proud to have been a part of the Star Quest project and appreciated the chance to grow as a musician.

“In the few months that I have come to know the finalists I have grown very attached to each one. This competition has in many ways opened numerous doors for me, so I don’t view being eliminated as a negative,” he added.

“It was all good from me, all good,” said Wayneroy after his elimination. “ To be among the top ten performers from among 2000 contestants this is big for me. I met wonderful people I would not have met if I had not entered the contest.”

Marvin Smith said he was very disappointed but added that it was an exhilarating experience.

“The contestants were great and I felt we were all more friends than competitors. The organisers made us feel very comfortable and it was like a family affair. I gained a lot of experience. Right now I am recording in Jamaica for release in June,” he added.

The contest is really hotting up and the remaining six finalists all received a fantastic reception from the studio audience. With everything to play for, next week’s elimination is sure to throw up plenty of surprises.
