New Cardiologist at Cayman Islands Hospital
Friday, July 22, 2005
The Cayman Islands Hospital has recruited a new cardiologist to enhance the
range of speciality cardiology services being offered by the Health Services
Authority (HSA). Dr. Stefan Ott, a leading German cardiologist specialising in
cardiac catheterization, pacemaker implantation and other heart and coronary
artery diseases joined the staff of the Cayman Islands Hospital on 18 July.
Dr Ott replaces Dr Neeraj Prasad, a Cardiologist who resigned several
months ago, and will continue work in this important area tackling heart
disease and other related health problems. Heart disease and sudden cardiac
arrest are a major cause of death worldwide.
Dr. Ott is is a former Associate Professor of Cardiology at the St. Josefs
Hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany and also manages a private practice which sees
in excess of 2,000 clients annually with more than one thousand non-invasive
procedures each year.
“The Hospital is fortunate in recruiting the services of such an
experienced professional of the calibre of Dr. Ott,” commented Shirline
Henriques, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the HSA.
The Health Services cardiology unit provides a comprehensive range of
cardiac specialist services including EKG, cardiac ultrasound, stress testing
and holter monitoring for the evaluation of heart rhythms, pacemaker insertion
and our newest service, transaesophageal echocardiograph.
“The appointment of Dr. Ott and further enhancements which are being
considered for our cardiology services, further broaden the range of
cardiology services on island for our patients. It also reduces the many
incidental expenses of offshore medical care, as well as the emotional trauma
that many patients undergo as a result of being away from their families while
they are off-island for diagnosis and treatment,” continued Mrs Henriques.
