LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I totally agree with Philip Hackett
Monday, August 15, 2005
Dear Sir,
I totally agree with you, Chanderpaul is the worst captain I’ve seen in my
lifetime, the guy seems not to have a clue about strategy, his field placings
sometimes made me wonder if he still thinks he’s helping his dad with the
fishing chores he did at an early age, he sets the field as though he’s
setting a fishnet for obliging fish.
Chanderpaul and Kallicharan are of the same mould and as we all know now
the ensuing results.
As a West Indian supporter for all my life and a Guyanese too, Chanderpaul
is a disgrace for accepting the captaincy in the first place. People like
Chetram Singh and Bish Panday are Guyanese businessmen who have an agenda,
remember how Chanderpaul got into the team as an unknown, on the eve of the
test match when Chetram Singh came up with all the excuses for not flying in
Roland Holder from Barbados or even selecting Roger Harper who was in Guyana
at the time.
These are the men who have brought West Indies cricket to its knees. Basil
Butcher can attest to this, as he attempted to ascend to the presidency of the
Guyana cricket board; unfortunately the clique has cemented itself.
West Indies cricket is being run by too many businessmen with personal
agendas.
The selectors appointed Sarwan as the vice captain as a grooming influence.
What did Chetram Singh do? Appointed one of his disciples Guyana captain so
you clearly saw where the allegiance blatantly stood out.
I guess I’ll have to endure more sleepless nights following the poor
administration of West Indies cricket.
John Ferguson
