Jessy Dixon Gospel Concert was a blast

Wednesday, November 2, 2005
This might be one of the smallest crowds gospel singer,
Rev Jessy Dixon, has performed before but the energy of the audience of about
150 must seem like there were thousands of people packed in the Victory
Tabernacle Church on Eastern Avenue on Saturday, 22 October.
The Cayman Scouts Association put on a concert featuring
Rev Jessy Dixon from Chicago along with local acts.
Jessy Dixon, a multi-Grammy winner, put on an
electrifying performance stirring people to get up out of their seats to dance
and sing along.
Rev Dixon, feeding off the crowd’s energies, danced up a
storm onstage. He was performing in the isles, shaking the hands of, and
blessing the people in the front row.
During one of his songs he told members of the audience
to shake his hands if they were blessed and was rushed by a dozen or more
people. This seems to boost Rev Dixon, who was performing in the Cayman
Islands for the third time.
While the audience responded to all his songs, the ones
that drew the most responses were the popular I am Redeemed, The Wicked Shall
Cease Their Troubling, Highway To Heaven from his current album ‘Get Away
Jordan’.
With 20 years experience in the recording industry, 30
albums with three gold albums and securing places on charts such as Billboard,
and CashBox, Rev Dixon’s message to the audience was that Jesus is the answer
to everything.
Prior to taking the stage Rev Dixon, who has performed in
almost every country around the world, spoke to the media. He said that he has
recently finished an album, which should be released next month, entitled
Touch Me Lord Jesus.
“I finished it today (Saturday 22 October) but the cover
was not ready for me to take with me,” he told Cayman Net News.
Even though Rev Dixon has performed before crowds
numbering in the tens of thousands he said that he loves performing in Cayman.
“The people here know the song they sing with you and they are full of
energy,” he said.
Other performers at the concert were Keesa Peart, popular
gospel recording artiste, Mark deMercado and Clive and Friends; well only
Clive; no one knew what had happened to his friends.
Keesa wowed the audience who were not strangers to her
talent. She mesmerized the crowd with both original and cover gospel songs.
Mark deMercado’s powerful but tantalizing voice complemented the song Lord
Lift Us Up Where We Belong as well as the other songs he did.
Master of Ceremony Dale Henry injected a lot of humour
into the concert with his jokes. He introduced Clive and Friends however
Clive’s friends were ‘missing in action’ and he had to do his number solo.
This did not seem to bother the crowd a bit, as he performed well.
