Track & Field season kicks off Saturday

Cayman Olympian Cydonie Mothersill will be honoured

The local track and field season is set for an early start, with the announcement by the Cayman Islands Athletic Association that the first meet of the season will take place on Saturday 14 January. The annual Truman Bodden Meet will take place at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, with competition starting at 9:00 am.
Competitors are required to present themselves at the track no later than 8:30am on the date of the meet. The meet will feature a wide variety of events and age groups, which will include competition in Long Jump, Shot Put, Triple Jump, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, 3,000m, 100m, 800m, 400m, 1500m and 200m for age groups 10-13; 14-16; 17-19 and Open categories for both male and female competitors.
Registration Forms can be collected at the offices of the Cayman Islands Athletic Association at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, or from Coaches Williams, Yen, and Harper. Forms will also be made available at all schools on Cayman. These forms must all be returned to the offices of the CIAA no later than 6:00 pm on Friday 13 January.
There is no entry fee for participating in the meet.
The Association requests the attendance of all the members of its Technical Committee at the meet and would ask that they assemble at 8:00 am on the day of the meet outside the VIP Lounge of the Complex.
The 2006 calendar will continue later that evening with the staging of the Second Annual Awards Ceremony at which presentations will be made to members of the various National teams in 2005, including a special honouring of the achievements of Olympian Cydonie Mothersill by the Association.
In other athletics news, the CIAA has released its qualifying standards for athletes hoping to represent Cayman at various senior and junior international meets during 2006.
