A group of young children from the Grace Christian Academy had great fun on the beach last Friday 3 February sand-sculpting the Cayman Islands’ national bird - the Cayman parrot.
The kids got busy creating their colourful artwork on the public beach, West Bay Road and the final result will be entered in the National Children’s Festival of the Arts (NCFA) competition.
The students were taught about the cultural icons of the Cayman Islands, which included the parrot and other creatures.
They had a lot of fun gathering, shaping and painting the sand in bright colours. Their parents were also on hand to encourage the kids in their artistic
endeavours.
Kathryn Summoch, a teacher at the school, said that the sand sculptures were photographed and will go on exhibit.
Sonia Bush, who is studying to become a lawyer, said that she was very happy to have taken the time from her studies to be with her daughter Gina.
