Campbell wins at Millrose Games

Jamaican Olympian, Veronica Campbell, last weekend proved she is faster than the US’ Lauryn Williams, at a re-match here at the 99th Millrose Games at Madison Square Gardens in NYC.

Campbell, a 100 and 200-m specialist, took the victory in the 60-m race in a time of 7.095. Not even Williams came close, beaten back by fellow-American, Me’Lisa Barber in a time of 7.098 for the second spot.

Williams placed third with 7.19. 4 while Angela Daigle-Bowen and Angela Williams, also of the United States, were fourth and fifth in a time of 7.29. 5 and 7.36, respectively. The Bahamas’ Debbie Ferguson grabbed the sixth spot in a time of 7.40. 

In commenting on her win, Campbell stated, “I didn’t get the start I wanted. I was hesitant at the start, but I am very pleased to win. I’m very confident. The Lord has blessed me so much. I was just trying to catch up with the field. I realized Lisa was way ahead.”

Meanwhile, Grenada’s Hazel-Ann Regis won the 400-m in a time of 55.54, beating out the US’ Tiffany Ross-Williams, and Crystal Cox.

While Kenia Sinclair of Jamaica claimed the win in the 800-m ahead of Guyanese Marian Burnett and the US’ Christin Wurth and Jen Toomey, United States. Meskerem Legesse of Ethiopa placed fifth in this race while Frances Santin of the United States was 7th. Melissa DeLeon of Trinidad brought up the rear in a time of 2:12.13.
