
Cayfest ’06 Arts competitions now open

The Cayman National Cultural Foundation said that Cayfest this year will be from April 20 – 29 and although a full schedule of events will be released nearer the time, however, organisers have released the deadlines for entry for a number of competitions.
Those wishing to enter the photography contest need to submit their work by 5:00 pm 7 April.
Categories include Animals, Close-ups, Landscapes, Lifestyles, Portraits, Underwater and a new category called Photo Illustration which relates to photographs that have been artistically re-touched or altered. Please note that this competition is open only to amateur photographers who have been resident in the Cayman Islands for at least one year.
Prizes are as follows: 1st place: $150, 2nd place: $100, 3rd place: $50.
Entry forms are available from the CNCF and our sponsors for this event - Cayman Camera, Rapid Photo, Photo Plus, Island Photo, The Camera Store & Kennedy Gallery. Photos should be dropped off at the CNCF office.
For the Art Exhibition & Sale sponsored by KPMG submissions must be made by 5:00 pm 13 April.
All artists are invited to submit their best work in the following mediums: Air Brushing, Acrylic, Batik, Ceramic, Charcoal, Collage, Computer Art, Fabric Art, Glass, Gouache, Graphic Design, Ink, Metal, Mixed Media, Oil Painting, Pastel, Pencil, Photography, Print Making, Sculpture, Silk, Watercolour, Wood, or Other (Specify on entry form). A maximum of 4 pieces can be submitted by each artist. Please note that not all pieces will be accepted into the exhibition and that the organizers reserve the right to curate the entries to ensure a high standard of exhibition. It is also important to note that all hanging artwork should be suitably framed or mounted with finished edges, and be ready to hang. All works on paper should also be framed. Entry forms available from CNCF, National Gallery, Kennedy Gallery & Work of Art, and artwork should be dropped off to the National Gallery.
Submissions to the Cayfest Art Exhibition & Sale this year may also have the added bonus of being selected to represent the Cayman Islands at Carifesta IX in September, in Trinidad this year.
For the Literary Arts Competition sponsored by Hobbies & Books submissions are to be made by 5:00 pm 21 March.
The contest has two categories open to adults age 17 and older who have been resident in the Cayman Islands for at least one year: 1)Poetry and 2)Short stories. Short stories should not exceed 2000 words and writers may submit a maximum of two entries.
Prizes are as follows: 1st place: $150, 2nd place: $100, 3rd place: $50.
Winners may also be asked to read their work at our Cayfest Literary Reading. Entry forms available from CNCF and Hobbies & Books. Entries should be dropped off to the CNCF office.
The CNCF recommends participants pick up a copy of the rules and regulations for each competition before starting work on their entry.
