Fashion store donates clothing to Crisis Centre clients

NKY Cayman Fashion Group made an extraordinary donation of several thousands of dollars of designer clothing to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, just in time for Christmas.

Ania Milanowska-Sedgley, Executive Director of the Crisis Centre, was on hand to collect the goods. “Christmas can be a very trying time for the clients of the Crisis Centre as although abuse rates tend to be higher around the holiday season, there is more pressure on women to stay at home. Having gifts such as these will make a monumental emotional impact on our clients, who often struggle with self-esteem issues. Having beautiful clothing to wear will be such a treat for some of our clients, who often show up at the Centre with nothing but the clothes on their backs. This is a generous and very thoughtful donation.”

Nicola de Lima, owner of NKY, was pleased to be able to offer the gifts. “I volunteered hundreds of hours at a women’s shelter in Canada before I moved to Cayman and the stories of the women that I met there have always stayed with me. For them to make a move to leave their homes can be extraordinarily difficult and I hope that this small token will make those who do elect to live a life free from violence feel a little bit better about themselves,” she stated.
