Southern Cross Club wins World Travel Award
It is generally known by all who have ever visited there that Little Cayman is a gem and one of the last true paradise islands in the western hemisphere. The recent World Travel Awards once again highlighted the special appeal of the island, with one of its accommodations copping a coveted award and two others nominated for high honours.
Southern Cross Club was named the Cayman Islands’ Leading Boutique Resort 2013, for the second time, following its win at the 2012 awards. The hotel was also nominated in the same category from 2008 to 2011.
Little Cayman Beach Resort and Pirates Point, who were previous winners, were among the nominees this year.
When contacted by Cayman Net News Ms Jennifer Mills, General Manager of Southern Cross Club, said: “We are all thrilled at Southern Cross Club to receive our World Travel Award for Leading Boutique Resort in Cayman. This is one of the highest awards any individual or operator can aspire to within tourism. For the resort to be decorated, over the other leading nominees in this category, is an honour.”
She added: “We are very proud for the resort to receive this prestigious award for the second year in a row, which is an excellent indication that Southern Cross is maintaining its reputation for a high level of customer service and providing guests with an exceptional experience, which keeps them returning year after year. This is a tribute to the resort’s owner Pete Hillenbrand and a credit to the resort staff who do a phenomenal job.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism Hon Moses Kirkconnell, though away on official business, commented on the awards, telling Cayman Net News, “In these austere times when it has become necessary to do so much more with less, I wholeheartedly applaud the efforts of the Southern Cross Club for earning the title of Cayman Islands Leading Boutique Resort for the second year.”
Dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The North American and Caribbean ceremony was held on 14 September 2013 in Antigua, at The Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa.
According to information published by World Travel Association, “World Travel Awards is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating those companies, organisations and brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service. The gala ceremony had a line-up of stars, from co-hosts Walt Wiley and Samoya Kirby, to legendary band The Burning Flames, as well as the sensational Passion de Dance entertaining the guests.”
