Deputy Police Commissioner Rudolph Dixon was re-arrested today (Friday) following a hearing in front of Chief Justice Anthony Smellie, at which the Chief Justice quashed an earlier writ of habeas corpus ordering Mr Dixon's release from custody..
Mr Dixon had been arrested on Thursday morning on suspicion of as yet undisclosed offences and was detained at George Town Police Station. However, at approximately 6:15 pm on Thursday evening, an order was served on the duty inspector at George Town Police Station, pursuant to an ex-parte habeas corpus application before the Chief Justice earlier in the day.
The order directed the release from detention of Mr Dixon and a full hearing of the habeas corpus application. The matter was heard on Friday morning at 9:00 am in the Grand Court.
According to a government press release, the original order was based on incomplete information. The Chief Justice having heard from the Crown on these matters on Friday morning quashed the order.
Mr Dixon has been rearrested and is being interviewed on matters for which he was originally arrested yesterday.
Mr Dixon is said to remain a suspect for the offences for which he was arrested and the investigation into all matters will continue.
Senior Investigating Officer Martin Bridger said, "I want to reassure all residents of the Cayman Islands that the investigation into integrity issues continues. My objective has always been and continues to be a search for the truth." |

Glenford Taylor: I am sorry for the image that been cast on the RCIP but Mr Dixon has had it coming for a long time. He has orchestrated things beyond the thoughts of any reasonable thinking individual. I hope he enjoys his new abode. |
