The Life Underwriters Association of Cayman (LUAC) earlier this month presented a cheque for CI$2,500 to Medical Director of the Cayman Heart Fund Dr Sook Yin to aid the organisation with its programmes.

LUAC at its monthly meeting at the Family Life Centre in George Town on Thursday, 5 June, fulfilled a pledge to assist the Cayman Heart Fund.

On presenting the cheque to Dr Yin, LUAC’s President, Jewel Ebanks, applauded the Cayman Heart Fund for its valiant efforts to educate the public about heart disease during the Heart Fund Symposium held at the Family Life Centre in May 2008.

She also stated that the members of LUAC have a moral obligation to advise insurance clients through sound financial advice and appropriate financial products on how best to plan for themselves and their families to alleviate, if not eliminate, the financial burdens that can be caused by such dreaded diseases.

“It is only fitting that we, as professionals, play our role as responsible citizens by contributing to the local community. Each year the association identifies a charitable organization to assist, and last year the recipient was the Kidney Foundation. This year’s recipient was chosen after our industry lost one of its own, Mr Ken Chand, from a heart attack,” Ms Ebanks said.

Dr Yin thanked the association for its contribution both in terms of the monetary donation and the tremendous support it gave to the success of the recent Heart Fund Symposium. She continued by exhorting LUAC membership to stay involved and remain committed to the welfare of the members of society in general.

LUAC is a non-profit organization and its membership is made up of Life Underwriters, Brokers and Sales Managers from the local Life and Health Insurance Companies, Brokerages and Agencies including Americo/Cayman Insurance Centre, British Caymanian Insurance Agencies, British American Insurance Company, Balderamos Insurance Services, Clico Cayman, Derek Bogle Insurance, FIS Insurance Brokers, JEN International Insurance Services, QuikCare Insurance Brokers, Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands, and Sagicor General Insurance.
