Read more ›Cayman Rugby’s Youth and Oldies scene took to the South Sound rugby pitch on 28 April with the visit of Key Biscayne Rugby Club “Rugby Rats” to the Cayman Islands. The Cayman U13 squad previously visited Key Biscayne in January and narrowly lost that match 29-27. Understandably, Key Biscayne’s return visit was eagerly anticipated by the Cayman players. The spoils were shared in the warm up games on the Saturday, with Cayman winning the first game and Key Biscayne winning the second game. The stand-out players were Lleyton James, Dylan Bostock and Devin Mourao, but the whole squad adapted well to playing sevens (seven-a-side as opposed to 13-a-side) on a full pitch. ...

Read more ›Bishop Shanahan High School Rugby Club returned to Cayman for the fourth time over the Easter weekend to play a series of matches against the Cayman U19s. Bishop Shanahan, a co-educational secondary school in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, has enjoyed a rich rugby touring history since the club was founded in 1993, with Cayman being a preferred destination for the young Shanahan players to test their metal against the Caribbean’s premier under 19 programme. The first game on 5 April was a close affair, with the bigger Americans controlling the lineout and scrum, but the Caymanian backline were too hot to handle as Cayman came out on top after 80 minutes. Dartmouth University has made an early impression so far winning two out of its three games on island, but it is Holy Trinity High School, a team from Ontario Canada, that was left licking its wounds on its third trip to the Cayman Islands since Hurricane Ivan. Not only has the Cayman Rugby Football Union rebuilt its clubhouse, fixed its pitch and made continual improvements to its grounds since the hurricane, but the Junior Rugby programme, under the tutelage of Coaches Russell Hayward, Noel Phillips and Gary Southway, has also gone from strength to strength. ...
